Description: Over approximately 2 years, David and Adrian Blackwell worked with a collection of authors, Indigenous and non-Indigenous, to explore the overlaps between methods of land delineation, settler colonization, and the brutal misconception that Mother Earth should be turned into an asset to build individual wealth and power. More importantly, this issue of Scapegoat Journal sought to highlight how the notion of property plays a foundational role in the intellectual infrastructure of design thinking and practice. Through a series of interviews, new essays, and artwork, the issue raises the profile of property in design discourse by building awareness around how the idea of property, as a social construct, structures the design and building of the world we inhabit. This collaboration was fundamental to the conceptualization of ‘Not for Sale!’ as the winning submission for the 2023 Venice Biennale.
